In my portfolio, I need to analyse the work of other students to comment on what they've done well and how they've inspired me.
I looked at a students Film Trailer from last year (Holly) and she did a Psychological horror called Bloody Mary
I thought the name of the film was a great idea since its short and catchy and resembles a horror movie since lots of people know who Bloody Mary is, or at least that she's scary.
At the start I thought she had a really good idea with the light switch and the noise to go with it, then using a shot reverse shot going back to the light from the houses. Her idea comes across as really fluent with bloody mary haunting this girl as she has repeated her name in the mirror. I think the Mise-En-Scene is really effective as the makeup and costumes, setting are definitely really good. As it is set in a home, this attracts the audience even further because it is in a familiar location (e.g. audience live in a house). I think the music was great it really was eerie and sounded professional, especially when it carried on to the end and you thought that was it, but then Bloody Mary pops up at the end making it really scary and similar to professional film trailers. Moreover the editing techniques she used were good especially the ghost walking up the stairs. The superimposition she used was all consistent which flowed really well and the font really matched with her idea.
