Dyers star theory proposed that stars are constructed to look like real people, expirencing real thoughts and emotions. Stars are constructed for financial gain for instituions. His theory is split in sections
1. Audiences and Instituions
2.Constructions
3. Hegemony
4. Character and Personality
Audiences and Institutions
Stars are made fundamentally to make money. The music institution then models the stars image around the target audience. For example The famous pop star Rihanna also known as RiRi is famously known for identity. She projects this is her music videos making her recognisable not just for her music. Record Label Def Jam signed Rihanna and transferred her into a pop star after her notorious album Good girl gone bad. She maintained this status by going to parties and having a celebrity boyfriend as well as having many social networking sites. In addition Rihanna founded a charity named the Believe foundation outlined goals of aiding 10,000 in need of Bone marrow transplants. This made an impact on her stardom making her a 'true pop star'.
Constructions
The star is built for the audience, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea. E.g. they all have Big assests which make them attractive to males. She was converted by her record Label with different hairupdos and fashions.
Hegemony (Cultural Beliefs)
Hegemony is all about how we as an audience can relate to the stars expirences and this turns into idolizations as people want to be like her and do what she does/wears etc. Rihanna has many social networking sites for example Twitter and so forth her audience can follow her actions. The stars can portray a negative role for example smoking drinking and drugs and her target audience is mainly 13+.
Character and personality
Dyers theory suggests that stars are there to purley make money. The stars are transformed over time to suit current trends e.g. Rihanna going from skinny to curvy. This then influences people to follow a 'trend' and follow the stars taste.
Our film trailer
In any film trailer you need to pick the appropriate actors/actress for the role and the genre. We picked Mr. Swain for the main role of the clown because he was good at playing a scary persona.
